THE BALEARIC ISLANDS

Can Lis is situated on Majorca, which is a part of the Balearic Islands that also includes Minorca, Ibiza, Formentera and a number of smaller islands.

The area is a province of Spain as well as an autonomous region, with Palma de Mallorca as its capital city. The island's official languages are Catalan and Spanish.

The Balearics have a mild climate and tourism is the main source of livelihood. Agriculture is also an important industry, especially on Majorca. Its inhabitants mostly speak Catalan.

Majorca is the biggest island and the best known. The island is characterized by its bays and beaches, its varied landscape, national parks, fishing villages, olive groves and almond orchards.
